Edge-of-the-network connectivity
Heavy-Duty Edge Switches provide high price-to-value ratios and flexibility for the factory floor. They complement our other Media Converter Switches to provide edgeof-the-network connectivity for industrial applications. These switches are ideal for any location in which you need to connect a few PLCs or other industrial devices upstream over a fibre cable, or where you need to aggregate and connect multiple devices over copper cable. Their small footprint-not much larger than a pack of playing cards-gives them the flexibility to provide seamless connectivity from the most remote device to the IT department, eliminating the need for multiple network protocols within industrial applications.
Highly configurable
This family of switches delivers 6 Ethernet ports in 277 configurations designed to meet any application need. There are three basic models: (1) fibre and (5) copper ports; (2) 100-Mbps fibre and (4) 10-/100-Mbps copper ports and (6) copper ports. Fibre port configurations include all multimode and single-mode connector types. Power supply options for any of the modelsinclude AC or DC with 12-, 24- or 48-VDC terminal blocks, as well as an AC/DC model. Internal power sense monitoring is available for switches that will be installed in hostile environments.
Heavy-Duty Edge Switches have three levels of hardening, from standard (office) to hardened (factory floor) and extreme(outdoor). Office-grade products for offices and indoor wiring centres include metal mounting clips and are available with rackmount trays. The Hardened products featured in this page use high-grade components and patent-pending thermal techniques. The metal packaging uses passive cooling techniques (no fans) so that the switch can resist dust, dirt, moisture, smoke and other contaminants. Mounting options include standalone panel mounting, DIN rail and rackmount tray. Extreme products use premium grade extended-temperature components and the same thermal techniques and mounting options as hardened products do.
Link-Loss-Learn capability
The transparent Link-Loss-Learn™ function enables you to use the switches in self-healing and redundant LAN topologies. This allows switches to immediately flush their address buffers and relearn routing upon Link Loss signal detection, and provides rapid recovery in mission-critical applications at the very edge of the network without affecting either standards-based or proprietary redundancy protocols farther up the networking hierarchy.
